There is an impressive gravity to the work of Taiwanese potter, Zhang Hao Yan, yet his mastery and materiality always stop shy of sobriety. Each of his pieces exudes an undeniable playfulness often displayed via the lines and profiles of each vessel, creating personality through form.

Thrown from grog-rich stoneware clay, this tea server is thrown and trimmed by hand on the potter’s wheel. Undulations in color, texture, and iridescence are the result of ash and flame as they traveled along channels of air in through the wood burning chamber of the kiln and up through the chimney. Each pieces underwent more than 5 days in this state, building up the rich surface of the server.

Pictured is one in a series of five servers. Individual pieces vary somewhat in size and tone, a hallmark of this glazing method, and all hand made work. Please note that while we cannot guarantee that the one we ship is exactly as pictured, what you will receive will be as beautiful.

Usage and care: To wash, simply rinse between uses or hand scrub. We do not recommend use of detergent.
