Thrown on the potters wheel from a grog rich stoneware, this tall sided tea bowl from the Taiwanese artist Zhang Hao Yan appear less constructed by hand and more hewn directly from the earth. This found, organic quality is enhanced by a multi-day wood firing, charring the exterior with the a mix of carbon-trapping and burnished flame. Subtle variations in the texture are achieved through hand carving with a fettle knife and the artist’s own fingers, faceting the clay to catch errant drips of glaze or the vitrified rivulets of ash.
The proportions of the tea bowl are particularly well suited to cold weather drinking; the high sides of the form insulating your tea, keeping it warm and cozy as you sip throughout the day.
This bowl is one of a kind.
Usage and care: To wash, simply rinse between uses or hand scrub. We do not recommend use of detergent.
